What every hospitality site needs

Booking on the first screen

Most people open a restaurant site on their phone to do one thing, so I'd put the Book a table button on the first screen, where a thumb already is, and send it straight to your booking system.

Menus you can read on a phone

Where I can, I'd build the menu as a proper page rather than a PDF, so it loads quickly and reads well on a phone without anyone pinching to zoom. Prices, dietary notes and specials stay easy to change.

Opening hours and directions

Hours, kitchen times and how to find you sit near the top and match your Google listing, so nobody turns up to a locked door.

Your own photos

I photograph food and interiors for a living, so the site is built around your real dishes and rooms rather than stock pictures.

Food photography

Fast on a phone

Banana Wharf's pages now show their main content in about a second on real phones, down from about 3.7 seconds on the old site, measured from real visitors in Chrome.

Same-day changes

New menu, Christmas hours, a one-off event: send it over and it is usually live the same day. Everyday updates are included, not invoiced.

The menus and photos too

The website is usually one piece of a bigger job. I design printed menus, photograph food and interiors, and run a Hospitality Health Check for restaurants and bars, so it all comes from one person and looks like one place.

Common questions

How much does a restaurant website cost?

Starter sites are £49 a month or £229 to build, Business sites £99 a month or £499, and Professional sites £175 a month or £899. Every plan includes hosting, SSL, domain setup and everyday updates. Bigger bespoke builds, such as a group of venues under one brand, are quoted from £1,500.

Can I change the menu myself?

You can, if you want a CMS, which comes with the Professional plan. Most owners would rather just send the new menu over, and I usually have it live the same day at no extra cost.

Can guests book a table on the site?

Yes. I'd link the Book a table button to the booking system you already use and keep it on the first screen on a phone, so booking takes a couple of taps.

Can you photograph the food and design the printed menus too?

Yes. I'm a commercial food photographer and a graphic designer as well, so the website, the printed menus and the photos can all come from one person. That is how Padharo works: the website, menus, photography, social feeds and emails all come from me.

Can you look at my current website first?

Yes. The free site check gives you five specific fixes in about 30 seconds, and if you would like me to look at it properly, send me the link on WhatsApp.
